    Oxalic acid and new Queen

Many thanks for the advice, everyone. The frames with pollen in were pretty old and we left the more recent ones. To our mentors, this seemed like a good opportunity for a clean out, but it seems the bees disagreed. Another learning curve... Remains to be seen if the new Queen has upped her...

    moving hives

In the interests of keeping on good terms with the neighbours, we did move the bees, to a friend's garden. They are thriving there and we have just taken on our 2nd colony. Thanks for the advice. It'll be much less daunting if we have to move them again. :)

    Oxalic acid and new Queen

Hello :) We've been keeping bees for 2 years and have just bought a 2nd colony from our club apiary. The colony was part of an artificial swarm and our mentors waited until the new Q was in lay before moving her and her bees to our out-apiary. After a couple of days we inspected, removed 3...

The frames are so light at the moment - just full of young bees that don't have enough to eat. Can we give them any of their own stores back...

Mid-August. Sealed Q cells & few stores. Advice please.

We are at the end of our first year of bee-keeping and need advice please. We hived a swarm in May 2012. The Queen swarmed in July and we lost them. We re-queened from a local supplier, but the bees knew better and tried to supersede in May. We took down the Queen cells - bad move, but we're...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

It's been a crazy week for us new beekeepers in Dorset. Our colony swarmed on roasting Tuesday - our neighbour watched them go, took some photographs, then wondered if maybe he shouldn't be standing quite so close, so picked the cat up & went indoors. We found the bees in the next road over...
