    Sold .

Not of any real help, but how I look at the term F1 (from years ago keeping and breeding tropical fish). F1 were the offspring from wild pure fish, that were brought to the UK and mated. It meant first generation from native 'true' varieties. F2 were bred from F1's. My bees could never be...

Beehut on agricultural land - planning consent?

It's quite simple, if the agricultural land is large enough area. You don't have to 'apply' as such. Rather inform planning of your intentions. Planners then have 28 days to refuse. That's it. Day 29 you can start building. Can't recall exactly, but land has to be over 12 acres. And it can't be...

    Heather honey harvest!

For those of us that do not have heather honey (and maybe like me, no idea what the pictures are showing), could you explain what is in the pictures, and which part of the process it is. I'm pretty certain the 2nd picture is not a kebab cooking, but Iay be wrong 🤪 Thankyou.

Correct way to nadir brood box

No objection. Overthinking on my part. Thought area would be too large for overwintering if double brood. That makes sense, and that's what I will do. Thankyou

Correct way to nadir brood box

The brood box with queen is full of brood and honey, so can't swap any frames. I have an extractor, but not for brood frames.

Correct way to nadir brood box

United a failing hive, (no Q, no eggs, nothing other than less bees) after failed artificial swarm. That went as planned. Now the bees are filling brood frames with honey, and I have no way to extract them. Don't want to leave them to fill more, or overwinter on double brood. Thinking I can...

Live package bees from Western Australia

Hmmm. Bees are considered livestock over here. Australia is not able to export livestock to the UK. The only 2 possible routes open are New Zealand (who have banned livestock entering from Australia) and via Canada. Dare I suggest you are actually looking to ship to the UK via Canada, or...

    Using a endoscope for inspections

Only time I have used one is during winter months. Just to check they are ok, without lifting the roof. Is it needed...probably not, but it is nice to see them huddled up. If you don't already own one, spend your money on other bee equipment.

Can you recommend a good beekeeping YouTube channel?

I like Cotswold bees YouTube videos. Certainly helped me get my head round doing artificial swarm last year.

    UFE Question

Where do people buy/acquire their mesh from? Seems expensive from bee retailers.

    Giving up bee keeping!

Surely you can get some from Roy's. Does Roy's sell bees yet? Sells everything else. Used to love going that way, and spending too much at Wroxham barns.

    Jars prices on the rise

I tried to use them and collect as was only going to be 10 minutes away. They refused due to 'covid' 🙄 Wouldn't even put them outside for me to collect. Strange as they are happy for courier to collect. Maybe there's a good profit in the delivery charge.
