Hi, I am trying to locate an overwintered nuc of nice, calm bees within the North Staffs/Cheshire areas. Have hives ready.

    Disaster!!!!

Enrico....you are so right, the weight consideration is a thing I had overlooked and a good lesson for all, but particularly new beekeepers such as myself.!

    Disaster!!!!

Hi everyone....first of all thanks to everyone who replied to my distress call, it's nice to know there are plenty who care and it is much appreciated....Anyway, I got to the hives and it was, as I suspected, a problem with my (home made) stand...it had buckled just enough for the weight of the...

    Disaster!!!!

Hi, I have just heard from the houseowner where I keep my 2 hives that the hives and stand have fallen. Not too sure at the moment how or why, but he says the garden is full of Bees and the hives are entrance down into the grass! Has anyone any tips or advice as to how to go about rectifying...

On hol's tomorrow and we have a problem!

Thanks for the input everyone...Russel, I really do take your point and you are absolutely right, that is why I am desperate for a positive outcome. I am away for 8 days. The Q was/is marked but unable to spot her so cannot do a AS, although I do have spares to do one.. If Q has swarmed...why...

On hol's tomorrow and we have a problem!

HI all....I am on one colony with double brood and QE then super, all national. I got the bees locally, and as a full colony, 5 or 6 weeks ago and all appeared OK until I inspected three weeks ago, they had become very aggressive so I had to stop inspection. I put it down to the weather perhaps...

Laying workers or Drone laying Queen?

I forgot to mention, there are five frames of Bees in the brood box, all very calm and placid. However, there was no sign of any brood in any of the frames, Drone, or otherwise, just some capped and open stores and some pollen too.

Laying workers or Drone laying Queen?

Hi everyone, I carried out an inspection today hoping to find a new Q had eventually started to lay. She was from a QC created after a swarm had left the hive about six weeks ago. I have inspected every week since emergence with no evidence of laying to be seen. I had seen the virgin Queen about...

what is with this frame numbering?

Blimey! Cheers for that Muswel Metro. No chance of a DOH! moment there then. A lot more complicated than I imagined. I'll have another look at the links tomorrow when my brain is more alert. Time for bed now and thanks again MM.

what is with this frame numbering?

What is the meaning of the frame numbering system. e.g. DN1 to 5. I presume the DN = deep national, SN = shallow national? I am bracing myself because I have an idea it's going to be a real DOH! moment on my part. :blush5:

Hiya MrB, I know exactly how you are feeling at the momentbee-smillie...I collected my first nuc's last Saturday and have been up to see them every night since...., I gave them some new frames of foundation earlier in the week, and last night I saw they have started to draw it beautifully so...

a turp en tine, saves nine!

Thanks everyone, found lots on ebay, although I would like to find a local shop as the postage on ebay is as much as the product! I like to post a query on the forum rather than googling as it sometimes leads to further discussions etc. Thanks for all the replies though.
