    Langstroth or National?

Hmm. I note a Langstroth: "A complete Langstroth beehive in high density polystyrene comprising roof, brood chamber, cambuckle strap and floor with varroa tray and aluminium mesh at a £5.00 discount (almost 10%) from the total price of the items if they were purchased separately... £49.50 " I...

    Bee Vital Hiveclean

Any more news?? Any further experiences on the use, and apparent effectiveness, of HiveClean?? ... and also , whatever became of FGMO fogging? I have not see any published papers on it recently ... and only limited stuff [principally from one worker and his proteges] prior to that.

    New hives for today's superbee

Rose pdf ... interesting management techniques, including: # not using a queen excluder # extracting honey [for sale] from any frame without brood present at that time ... though may have had brood in it in the past # making more space for growing brood nest by splitting the brood nest with a...

    Identification

ok- how about Mustard, for the yellow one. Also on that "green manure" web address I gave you, and quite likely that a "green manure mix" was sown.

    Over winetring now?

"I kind of think there is also about 1/2kg of protein in their stores as well (not nearly as much in sugar stores), so that must be good for them." yes, very definitely "good for them" and probably a great help in resisting nosema, and allowing a good Spring build up. I intend using sugar syrup...

    Identification

surely the bluey one is Phacelia ... a common and easily obtained "green manure": http://www.greenmanure.co.uk/phacelia.htm As a green manure, it is usually cut before flowering - which is a real shame as it is truly excellent for bees!

    Poly Langstroth versus Poly National

bees eating plastic?? Higher density, harder, polystyrene. I run cedar 14x12 (12 this year), a polyhive with an extension piece underneath to make the brood box 14x12, and at a different apiary I use Poly Langstroths [six] ... Swienty version. The Poly hive is ok, though flat-packed. The...

"Quick question, how many mm do you allow between pieces for cutting?" ... That depends on the thickness of your saw blade!!

    Entrance Disks??

That looks the biz! Next problem is ordering off a Polish website with no knowledge of the language! I think I shall have to find an appropriate third party! Any suggestions? Anyone know of Polish links between any UK dealers and this firm? Well done for tracking this one down, folks. Thanks.

    Entrance Disks??

Photo of the small disk entrance I have and want more of! It is 80mm diameter They really are ideal for nucs. Come in a range of colours , as well.

    Entrance Disks??

No - the ones I want/have are even smaller [by the look of them]. I'll take and post a photo over the next day or so.

    Entrance Disks??

I have 5 entrance disks, ideal for nuc boxes etc. About 2 1/2 inch diameter, with an oval hole, a QE sized slot, a ventilated hole , as options. Pretty colours. But ... I need some more. These were a souvenir from a trip abroad, and I can't find any listed in "the usual UK dealers". Anybody any...

    Apologies To Those 'Oop Norf'

It depends a bit on what "kit" you have with your 2 National colonies ... and whether the supers have drawn comb or not. If you plan on brood-and-a-half / bottom-supering to overwinter, it really helps to have drawn super comb when you start the autumn feed ... so if you haven't any drawn super...

    Half-filled Supers

Ah So! Fair cop, guv! I thought he meant 10lb-spread-across-many-frames-per-super Rather than 10lb spread across [say] 30 frames[or more], which I didn't think one would be able to quantify anyway .. after all, 3lb per super would be [say] only 2"x3" of capped honey per side of super frame.
