    blow touch disaster

TB, We had a similar experience years ago when we 'thought' we'd put the smoker remains out in an incinerator bin only to find our neighbour banging our door down to tell us that our fence was alight. Damage one Beehaus...Home Insurance covered the damage so might be worth checking with them...

Recent diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease

Karin, Thank you, we'll have to catch up seems so long ago. On behalf of MNDA and myself thank you for your donation every penny counts and is one step closer to finding a cure. We know everyone is watching the purse strings and there is always someone asking for money so a big thankyou and...

Recent diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease

Hi to all who know/meet Widders and myself, I haven't been on the forum for quite a while and not been that well particularly the latter end of 2011. The result was a visit to my local hospital in Canterbury and 5 days of extensive tests. The diagnosis was Motor Neurone Disease although I am...

I must have a friend but who?

Get rid of the wasps! Before they find your hives and start robbing them out!!! We stake our hives around the BB and round the hive roof to floor to stop anything tipping them over including badgers. Good luck I hate waps grr!

    raising new queens

John, Perhaps this would have been better placed as a thread in the queen rearing section? I would suggest its getting late in the season to rear queens, although not impossible IMO. I am sure others would disagree, however, that said we have run such courses throughout the year. Try reading...

    hanging bees

you can treat the wax moth with certan, wont solve the queenlessness but will solve the wax moth problem.

Queen rearing started in the Beehaus today

We went to help out at the Kent County Show on the Omlet stand and came away with an idea how to adapt the divider board for Queen rearing. I have now inserted a small amount of Q/X into the top of the divider board so that nursebees can get to the correct side of the hive. It took me less than...

Is it too late create an artificial swarm?

Darren When you take a look tomorrow in the Q+ colony check each and every frame even if it means blowing some of the bees out of the way to ensure they have no queen cells including the one you know about. I would then select 2 good Q/C's in your A/S and knock the rest down otherwise you could...

    3 quick questions

One idea to check which one is following turn and spray the air with a water based coloured spray maybe?

    3 quick questions

The real concern is the following! This is not a good trait regardless of residue venom on the suit...I agree washing it may result in them paying less attention to you but then again you should be able to sit within in a reasonable distance without being bothered by the bees. Bit too early for...

    Bee Basic Astro Suits...

just out of interest do you wear a baseball cap to keep it away from the face? We changed our suits recently to another supplier from beebasic but not because of the hood not fitting correctly. From your description sounds like you have the wrong hood to the wrong suit IMO.

New Mk2 Beehaus on the way..

I agree...thanks for comments. Only real sad loss was 3 Apideas melted beyond recognizition of the 3 we have lost 1 queen completely, 1 failed and 1 has emerged.

New Mk2 Beehaus on the way..

Sadly we had quite a big fire on Sunday in the home apiary..long story but essentially the fence caught alight and without our knowledge burnt 25' of panels. Amongst the damage our Beehaus suffered damage from the extreme heat as did my forearm trying to put out the fire! None the less the...

Bee Colony Cut-out/Free Bees - Essex!!!

Rick, Had a quick look last evening at the cut-out colony and they have quite happily filled 6/7 Langstroth frames. We'll be taking a good look at them at the weekend and hopefully see if they are Q+. GWW
