When I first met my girlfriend she wouldn’t touch anything close to best before date! So I would rip them off to make her use her eyes and nose thankfully she is now cured.
Depends on what and how much else you are buying. If you have a local suppler it may be cheaper. I live a mile away from a beekeeping shop so for odd bits I save money on not having to pay £8 delivery or making it up to £100
I’m happy for her to carry on as she likes if it is her each to their own I say :)
The hives if they are spraying out swarms each year and are finding a place to survive they are very unlikely to be coursing anyone a nuisance as it’s basicslly in the middle of nowhere
I’d really like to been watching the area since I noticed the hives there. I’ve got a 6 week baby boy now. It’s our first so don’t know how much/many hives I want to take on now will see how I get on this season hopefully I’ll still be doing this when he’s old enough to come with me!
Haha ye thought about that but know who owns the land around. I did think about putting box up a tree on a public footpath (mud track) but don’t know the legal side of all that. Then just thought do I need the extra hives when i plan on increasing my own this year.
So many what ifs and maybes...
There’s 5 hives in the bottom of a rape seed field nesr where I work I know the hives aren’t ‘worked’ as there is ivy growing All over of them I do wonder wether someone just put them there to let whatever move in and pollinate or if the beekeeper just stopped. But do see bees coming and going...
Yes that why I put from my experience being only 2 seasons so the poster can take it with a pitch of salt. It wasn’t advise as such just how things have gone for me so far :) And I can only go on what I’ve seen, been shown and told but it makes sense to me at the moment that a queen wouldn’t...
Haha slow done not spring yet I took that picture this morning a few hours later and suns gone winds picked up and it cold. Remember last year it snowed in March :)
I don’t see the need for them except for swarm multiplication. If the queen lays in a box it’s a brood box not a super. Once there’s a full super she doesn’t go past that box and in the box above and starts laying so from then all it’s all honey from my experience so far anyway (2016)
Not looking or feeling like winter here at the moment! People out on the beach walking their dogs while I’m at work :( but o well spring is almost here might get the shorts on end of February:)
Sorry for what happen. How do your bees normally behave? That’s what I would be asking myself do you feel confident around them. Last season I got stung ‘that I know of’ maybe 3-4 times’ all my own fault but I only have 3 hives and that was full inspections. Things like putting on fondant/sugar...
