Talking to the regional bee inspector today & he said that generally, varoa is at similar levels to last year. Other beeks at the meeting mentioned that they had a mixture of hives some with very little & some with heavy infestations.

On a slightly different topic, Eglu have been supplying standard national nucs for their Beehaus owners. I'd be a bit p1155ed if I'd found out that after paying a whole bank full of cash, that I'd been supplied with wrong sized frames that just generated brace comb & drones.

Further update, I checked the two queen right hives today - they have filled the drawn frame in the super with nectar and are now drawing out the two frames on either side of it. They just needed a little hint after all :-)

Not so good for us, our one hive was put on an early Baily change to get them from national to 14X12 & they took off like a rocket, we missed an inspection & they ran out of laying space & started swarming. We now have 5 hives but are having problems getting them to draw out the supers, but...
