    Did the oxalic today

Starflex must have just beat the fog. It's been dark & damp the last couple of days. Did you get much drop after the treatment? I was planning to do ours on New Year's Day, but I forgot to buy the acid, so I'll have to wait until the sharp ones open again.:blush5:

    Thieving squirrel

I like the T8, got one for my .223 for when noise is a concern, but I usually use a Beni Coolie compensator on my bigger stuff to reduce recoil. What do ou use your .270 for?

    THORNES poor value for money

The scrum at Windsor wasn't too bad today, nowhere near the numbers of people that were there in the last two years. Didn't even need shin-pads as they banned trollies from the scrum this year. Hopefully it won't be too long, the demand for equipment is dropping off, there were big piles of...

    Frame tool

Any one notice the natural cammo patterns on the hives? Looks like hive/honey theft is a problem in USA as well as here :-(

Which Areas Are Still Getting Pollen?

In Andover, there's small amounts of light yellow pollen coming in. Not too much nectar.

Garden beekeepers: What are your bees foraging on?

My wife has planted almost every bee friendly plant arround out hives but they normally totally ignore it all, leaving it for the bumble bees. The only exception to this rule this year was the borrage. We actually watched them ousting the bumbles to work it themselves. God knows what they're...

    varroa mites in colonies 2010

Talking to the regional bee inspector today & he said that generally, varoa is at similar levels to last year. Other beeks at the meeting mentioned that they had a mixture of hives some with very little & some with heavy infestations.

Amount of land required to keep bees?

Hi Mike, you're welcome to come up & see our garden apiary. Our Garden's a little bigger than yours but you'll see the lengths that we went to. The main thing is to have quiet bees & hone your manipulation skills before moving bees into your garden. Manipulation skills is a case of practice at...

I don't know why, but it happend to us earlier this year, both the hive with the queen and the one with the queen cells swarmed again - Ooops no equipment left!

    Bees don't like my super?

Hi Nick, I've had the same problems recently. The more experienced beeks from my local association have all said that bees can be a bit reluctant to draw out supers at this time of year. Do you have enough bees there? Are they going into the super but not drawing it out? Or just not going into...

    varroa mites in colonies 2010

Absolutely zero varoa either by drop or in drone brood cull. I thought I'd done this by accidentally over dosing the oxylic acid traetment, but from this thread, it looks as though it was the cold winter???

    Nasty Bees

Showing my ignorance - isn't the aggressiveness of the bees controlled by the hormones from the Queen? The reason I ask, is that I have a queenless hive that over the last week has turned realy nasty. The queen cell should be hatching soon & I was hoping for a quick attitude change - If I have...

Queen cell + a few bees = Nuc £100 Please!

On a slightly different topic, Eglu have been supplying standard national nucs for their Beehaus owners. I'd be a bit p1155ed if I'd found out that after paying a whole bank full of cash, that I'd been supplied with wrong sized frames that just generated brace comb & drones.

Why won't my bees draw out the supers?

Further update, I checked the two queen right hives today - they have filled the drawn frame in the super with nectar and are now drawing out the two frames on either side of it. They just needed a little hint after all :-)

Is this a good honey year for you?

Not so good for us, our one hive was put on an early Baily change to get them from national to 14X12 & they took off like a rocket, we missed an inspection & they ran out of laying space & started swarming. We now have 5 hives but are having problems getting them to draw out the supers, but...
