Hi I'm a bit worried and wonder if I need to be? Not having seen my little darlings for a couple of weeks they are suddenly out and about. Looks like they're foraging, very docile and seen a couple look like they're dying. Just worried that they're starving,but when I hefted the hive it seems...

saw five drones huddling together outside the hive today and feeding each other..poor things, felt like bringing them inside! Also saw a dead bee with pollen on her legs which was a bit worrying, but a sneaky glance inside seemed that all was OK. Anyone else got dead drone stories?

I have a poly national which I bought from Modern Beekeeping. Lovely, especially as we are due for a very cold winter and I know my bees will be cozy in thier poly hive!

Its one of the main reasons to have bees isn't it? I can walk right up and stand by the entrance and they're generally so busy they don't give a toss.

Found a dead one outside...after looking at its rather severe mouth I was glad it was dead...now to check the hive....

fed more syrup and gave a dose of homeopathic varroa treatment ...

Just got my first little 6lbs ...never tasted anything so good....feel a bit guilty giving them sugar syrup.

Sorry I meant to say 3 frames off of one super...not two supers....anyway am now going to use extractor from my my association. Having spoken to someone and now with what you're saying seems like the best thing to do. Thanks for input.

Has anyone got some suggestions on how to extract honey without using an extractor? I've just taken off a couple of supers (under advise from nearby bee inspector!) and now not sure on best approach to remove hone, though I do have some ideas. Thanks Debz:

too many bees? So glad you've asked this question....I'm just wondering what to do as I have a full super and a fairly full brood box. The queen I have came from a dadant and now in a poly national...which is smaller. I'm thinking of extracting the hone and then putting empty supers back on...
