    Hives blowing over

I have 1 national hive left (started with these) 1 commercial hive (got from a friend) and the rest are poly hives. All have been ok so far with the strong winds so far, but just in case, i put straps around the poly's and the stand they are on. The stands them selves are on pretty solid...

    Wasps stroll in...

Same here! wasps hammered one of my hives so much so, that i had to put them in a nuc, there were only 3 frames of bees left! I ended up moving them to another apiary. When i open the hive afterwards, this is what i found... I had wasp traps next to and near the hive but the damage was...

    Absent Queen & Queen Cells

Leave 2 open qcells if there are any. When the virgin queen hatches, given its a nuc, she should kill the other queen still in the cell.

    Irish Beekeepers facing 'meltdown'

Lost 3 hives over winter (75% of my stock) but luckly i got on to OSR with my remaining hive. Decided to go with double brood as she was a good queen and she didnt let me down, She laid up both brood chambers really well so ive now split them just when she decided to go and swarm, no matter, she...

Later on today, it cleared up and was a lovely 11/12 degrees for a small while and the weekend is meant to be...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took away 2 dead hives and gave some frames of honey the the 2 remaining hives. Must clean out the 2 dead hives over the next few days, mice got is and ate some wax. I must also paint them and make a better floor for one of them (the one the mouse got in!)

What does beekeeping mean to you?

Its an interesting hobby, there is always something going on making me think. Is the Queen laying, if not, why not, if she is, is it a good pattern. Is the hive a nice quiet one or not, What to do with QC’s, make up nuc etc. Putting the supers on and seeing them getting filled up. I also really...
