part filled supers end of season

Thanks Steve - you've hit on two of my concerns - supers on for cleaning with Apivar on not being a good idea and the chaos that feeding honey might create. Don't have a warming cabinet but I do have a huge freezer with some space in it - might just cling film the frames and fees them and pop...

Steve - would you then feed via feeders rather than place above crown board approach?

part filled supers end of season

It's all around 25% moisture content and all frames in about six supers are either full and a little capped whereas others are a quarter full or thereabouts and not caped at all. I extracted all uncapped honey that was 19% or less but didn't want to take the risk. I think I will either extract...

part filled supers end of season

Hi folks, I have quite a number fo supers partly capped and uncapped at the end of the season - I have Apivar strips on now. Do I extract the honey and feed it in feeders back to the bees or do I positions them near the apiary and let bees rob out? Pros and cons?

    Winter ventilation and mouse guards

I was going to leave the inspection tray in - it doesn't seal the OMF off fully really - but now you have me thinking!

    Mouseguards and winter ventilation

Great advice folks. My hives are not on stands - they are on wooden beams set on a paving slab and the apiary is on an elevated deck at the back of the garden. I originally did not buy hive stands because we live on a windy hill and I was afraid of them being blown over! But it turns out they...

    Mouseguards and winter ventilation

Thanks Dani but it an entrance block with four holes sufficient from a ventilation perspective? I suspect so - plus it keeps mice out...

    Winter ventilation and mouse guards

Hi folks, with open mesh floors, how critical is it to have the full entrance block removed for the winter - do they provide too much ventilation along with the OMF? on the other hand, I have a Paynes national with integrated mouse guard of only four holes in the supplied entrance block - along...
