Feeding - bag of sugar method

It is better than nothing. I've had to do it sometimes in a pinch, and they've made it, but if you have any frames from a dead out, or get a few from a friend, try that first. Just in my experience, though

    A Noise.

No. There are different scenarios, but primarily tooting is a battle cry. It usually signifies that the Q is out and looking to rumble. Sometimes, while a freshly emerged Q is hardening, the others will emerge tooting - answering the battle challenge -, or occasionally (though never witnessed...

Only virgins will make this sound, though sometimes even before they emerge, so you could still make a split, if possible

    Sugar syrup....1:1 or 2:1 ?

Very interesting - thank you! I'm afraid I don't understand these terms. Please, no offense was meant. I just meant that since your season is so short and winters so long, that it may (and apparently does not) affect the amount or concentration of sugar.

He swears they build wax like nothing else. I had never heard this...

    Advice on Today's Cut Out

No, unfortunately it doesn't sound like it's worth saving. But you definitely have a queen, and she hasn't laid anything at all? Weird. Personally (and this is just one guy's opinion) I would pinch the queen and combine them with your lightest hive. 'One in the hand' and all that.... Keep us...

    Advice on Today's Cut Out

Pollen coming in is usually a good sign of established residency. Good luck.

    Advice on Today's Cut Out

good deal and good luck beeno - please keep us posted on the results. (Occasionally I've had queens bolt on me even after workers started foraging, so I always like to know what others are doing and how it went)
