OA sublimation into the hive or under the open mesh floor ?

I too have wooden WBC’s therefore had someone cut out tiny trap doors on floor and retained the cut out plug to reinsert with turn buttons to keep this in place when not needed. This works well for me with stainless steel mesh on the floor inside, no disturbance in December when I am using the...

    Newbee from Northern Ireland

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum and ask what you like as you will always be answered. There is a great deal to learn and always remember we were newbies once and in my case anyway made absolutely loads of mistakes. Move on from the mistakes and rectify when you can, while resolving not to repeat...

Making thin foundation for cut comb

Personally I cut all combs out leaving only a couple of centimetres of their previous comb made by themselves. I dislike eating the rib caused by manufactured wax, and I do not wish my Customers to eat that either. I used to get told that this was quality cut comb not quantity, however I...

A large Funnel shaped guide directs the melted wax to this. The receptacle I use...

God I love growing our own

Like me you are lucky to be able to accommodate a garden space, I have raised beds which are a godsend and do not buy veg as I grow all my own, and grow them on seaweed. Great! Each bed has Annuals grown along side for pollinators very beneficial with Beans etc. Bees and Butterflies love the...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I introduce new Queens via the main entrance of the Hive and have not had a failure yet. The method was told to me by my mentor who had kept bees since 1921. Dunk the new cadged Queen in tepid water and then quickly show her the entrance removing the cage block, because she is wet and...
