License needed to purchase Oxalic acid?

Is there a limited shelf life on oxalic acid in crystal format? I have some stored for 3 years now as my wood isn't very dirty.

    Batten down those hives

At my cliff top apiary, it's just as blowy as it was last year without a name! Thinking of clicking my heels and heading to Kansas.

cardboeard or plastic flatpack nuc boxes

Jon from Belfast BKA makes them out of MEP election posters (correx) and duct tape - no joking! If there is not a thread on here there will be one on SBAi - he came along with one to our association a couple of years ago. BS National 5 frames

    Numbering frames

I put the year on the top bar in biro. Little point numbering as I rotate out about 3 brood frames per box per season to replace old comb.

    The right plum tree

Our local BKA is setting up a teaching apiary in an old apple orchard. There was a plum tree but with the gales over the winter its gone now. Q is which type of plum tree to plant. Looking for extrafloral nectaries as well as pollen from flowers. Any suggestions guys?

    Raw Sugar

I know we all use refined white sugar at some stage in our beekeeping and was trying to get local supermarkets to keep spills and breakages for our local association. However, I've had an offer of a supply of "raw sugar" from a food and drinks manufacturer that use it in lemonade type products...

    Situation Vacant

Petrol is a solution, but last year we requeened a friend's hive and the change was dramatic! They used to chase me 100 yards right off his property. After requeening they are now not bad at all, and even before old queens bees died there was a marked change. Time of year is only problem. Not a...

Here there isn't much drone brood yet, so may be handy for you to slip a frame of drone foundation into a couple of your selected colonies earmarked as drone producers now, as drones have to be sexually mature, so your talking 5+ weeks hence. Different colonies from the ones you are rearing...

    Deliberately Contrary? (BBKA News)

Agree with you itma. Half a story imho, if he is getting queens superceded from mating nucs he is taking them out too soon. Australian research from Rhodes and Denny (looking for link) talks about leaving them in for 35 days I think it was.

    Calling Irish Beekeepers

Got the rugby shirt, and really enjoyed the NIHBS conference. First time in Athlone, will be back. I'm secretary of our local BKA and we're starting a queen rearing group this season to restock a lot of our area with amm. Grafted from Galtee stock last year so using those colonies for drones. I...
