Newbie question on storing supers beneath brood box

Hi all, I will have extracted 3 supers of 1 hive by the weekend. Is it best to put these all back under the brood box for the entire winter? Does the entrance remain at the bottom of the hive meaning the bees would have to come up/down through 3 supers to leave/return to the brood box? This is...

Apiguard & Queen gone off the lay

Yes. This happened me last year as soon as the apiguard went on - Queen stopped laying and brood in all stages pulled from cells. I only needed to use one tray as there was no sealed brood as a result. The same colony this year was very strong. Don't panic i hear it happens .

Anybody got an update on the heather situation?? Nothing doing here in Co. Down. Is it too late for a flow?? Read brother Adams book - he talks about his best heather flow ever happening from 25th - 28th August (see p. 53). Trying to stay optimistic. What do you all think? Sent from my iPhone...

    Heather Flow

Hi Folks, I have 1 hive on the heather (first time). I put it up on Saturday past. Will be checking it over the weekend. I've heard there is no need for QX when bees on the heather. Is this correct or better just to play it safe and keep QX on? Thanks

    No Queen This Week?

Thanks Beeno. Just for my own knowledge - would she be out on a mating flight and simply not in the hive at that time.

    No Queen This Week?

Novice question: I found and marked a the new queen (created by the colony) in my nuc split last weekend. Released her back into hive after marking. All seemed well. Checked today and no sign of her or of eggs. Could she be out getting mated (Inspection at 2.00pm)? Hope that's not a silly...
