Is this the queen telling me she needs more space

Hi guys, had a nuc that lost the queen, gave them a frame with BIAS, they have raised a queen and I've left it alone for 3 weeks since my estimated emergence of the queen. Took a look in today and found this at the bottom of a super frame as I didn't have a deep frame available

Not using queen excluder - didn't seem to work

Hi guys, Last year I read a lot about the pros of not using a queen excluder do this year I decided to tr it on a bs nation give that I have that had currently just a brood box and a super. I knew there was maybe a chance she would start laying in the super, but I was ok with this as if she...

Can't find queen to do AS!!

Hi guys, Checked a over wintered nuc for the first time this year and found swarm cells on a couple of frames. One queen cell capped, very few eggs. Can't find the queen and I've. Checked 3 days on the run, she wasn't marked. Is it possible she's already left before I inspected even though for...

    Anyone making legit swarm lures

Thanks for the replies guys but I was told that lemon grass oil on its own isn't as good as the the other stuff that mimics the smell of a queen. Read about it last year but the lab grade reagents were quite expensive to guy and too much for what I need Any idea when the first swarms should be...

    Anyone making legit swarm lures

Hi guys, Would like to try my luck attracting some swas this year, put a few bait gives out last year but had no interest, hoping some swarm lures might sway it in my direction. Anyone making legit nasanov swarm lures that would sell me a few? Pointless buying the stuff to make it myself as I...

Nucs full -almost no where for queens to lay

Hi guys, I got 2 paynes poly nucs which have almost no where left for the queen to lay. They have been like this for a couple for weeks but as we are close to the end of the season, I wasn't sure if it was best to merge both of them and combine them both in a bs national. I have been...

Making entrance smaller - when should it be done

I'm using bs nationals, using OMF the right way (so inspection board can be placed below OMF) allowing bees to use the full enterance space. I just thought it was easier for the bees to pass in and out therefore making it less congested during a flow. I have added an enterance block now

Making entrance smaller - when should it be done

Hi, Keep reading how people are closing down their entrances on their hives, do I need to do that too? I've seen a couple of wasps hanging about but nothing major, won't making the entrance smaller slow them down Advice appreciated

Brood and a half or not??

So touchy lol This is a hive that I united 2 queen right nucs together (obviously removing 1 queen) So it is wall to wall with brood apart from the stores frame at either end of brood box

Brood and a half or not??

Hi guys, Have a national brood box that is wall to wall with capped brood. Do you think it's a bit late to add a super and go brood and a half??

Uniting 2 paynes poly nucs - easiest way

Hi guys, I want to unite 2 paynes poly nucs, problem is I haven't got any spare brood foundation. Is there any way I can unite them and put all the brood frames together in 1 single brood box rather than seperating them via the newspaper method without causing a massive brawl?
