Hi everyone - does anyone have an approved procedure for taking a swarm in the public space? The reason I ask is that I have had to clean up behind another beekeeper! I would not take the bulk of a swarm and leave the remains to upset passers by. Any thoughts?

What would you do if you thought your home was about to burn down? Panic!! They must have thought fire - lets get out of here... Cool smoke, I mix some green bits in with the dry. I collect the paper from the office shreader but not colour magazines, and garden trimmings. Hope this helps.

As honey is liquid when its put in the jar why can we not sell honey by fluid measure in stead of weight?

If it is not too late look at the dead bees, are they older foragers with shiny backs? If the bulk are then that might point to spraying.

I was told the Bees will always know best.

Assuming you want them to purchase your honey in the future then a free jar 'first time; they ask is fine. The 4oz jars a great for that.

Did you poke a few holes?

I have let mine go that colour from the bee poo, propolis and mud do that for me.

Do the hives face where you walking from?

Oh well! Fingers crossed time. I had an 'Inspector' pop the queen in a cage and go home with her. Another dropped her on the floor and stepped on her. I tried clipping the wings for a while but it produced angry swarms that could not get far away!!!

Good idea - sack the queen!

Laying workers cannot reach the bottom of the cell and leave the egg on the cell wall rather than the very bottom. Hope this helps?

I have used very low heat such as the warming cabinet to recover honey from wild comb and the like.

Try using a nail gun - builds the frame in a 1/4 of the time. :-)
