    Recycling laying worker brood frames

Hi Finman, It is on 6 frames. I carried out a Bailey comb change earlier in the year, so the comb is fairly new. Then I went queenless and the laying workers started. It is only because it is so new that I wanted to try and save it.

    Recycling laying worker brood frames

Can I do anything to recycle laying worker brood comb. I have removed it following a shake out. Do I throw it away or can I rework it. It has capped and uncapped drone brood in it.

    Slow progress.

You need to close down the unused space. Bees need warmth to be able to draw out the wax foundation. Placing a frame of foundation is not closing down space. If I were you I would look through the hive to see where the brood and stores are. If they are on say 5 frames, then give them 1 or 2...

    Moving frames of brood

Thanks Duchy and Enrico. Where should I try and slot them? On the edges of the brood?

    Moving frames of brood

I am looking to combine a couple of Nucs to one or two of my hive. I want to try and do this to maximise the potential for honey. At the same time, I am not comfortable squishing a perfectly good queen! Can I transfer frames of capped brood from the nucs and just slot them into the hives. If so...

    Drone Foundation

I can't see why it would matter if it is staying in the super. As long as the bees will store in it of course.

When to check after introducing eggs

Will uniting suppress a laying worker, or will it just spoil your NUC?

    drone cells

A simple question from a simple person, which probably has a simple answer. Do drone cells from brood cycle 1, contain drones on brood cycle 2? I.e if you have a DLQ, do you need to scrap the comb?

Method for combining a Nuc with a queenless hive.

Do I leave the supers off for the duration of the unite. Obviously the supers have lots of bees in them that belong to the queenless hive?

Method for combining a Nuc with a queenless hive.

Hi all, I am after a method of uniting a Nuc with a queenless hive. There is a floor in the Nuc so I can't place it on top. Do I need to transfer the Nuc into a brood first and combine the two brood boxes. There is room in the hive to fit the frames of the Nuc. Is there any way of uniting side...

    Loosing the plot now

Don't lose heart. It is difficult to keep track, but most of us are in the same boat this time of year. I find it easier to sit down in the apiary after inspections, and record everything there and then. I use the notes function on my phone. Then, when I get home I transfer the info to my...

Suspected DLQ or laying worker problem

I have tried the method above. It didn't seem like the right thing to do (tipping bees onto the floor) but when they had all calmed down, the hive seemed well populated. My only concern was that I removed the messy drone brood frames but I left a couple of frames with eggs and young larvae. Your...

Suspected DLQ or laying worker problem

Finally have a photo of one of the frames in question. Your thoughts would be welcome.
