Bees fighting around entrance to swarm box

Thanks rab, thought of 2 hives having a look, bees different but you can find that in any hive, boxes on top of garage so 12ft up, no stores as all comb empty, brood box on solid floor, small entrance. The 6 frame nuc has only the one frame so has a lot of space, but has as many bees having a...

Bees fighting around entrance to swarm box

I have a few swarm catching boxes out, a 6 frame nuc box with one frame of used comb, one full hive brood box with all frames 5 drawn, and an empty super sitting on a floor, this one is just stored. All have bees going in and out for the past 4 weeks or so, but a lot of defensive action going on...

    queen excluder

If the QE is stuck in the centre, lift the edges and with the centre still stuck give the QE a gentle twist, it just comes away without any pinging.

    Will Bees swarm if raining

If the bees haven't swarm yet, they will on the first warm/sunny day. You need to sort out the queen cells asap. Get well rapped up and if the queen cells are still there find the queen if not gone. If gone take down all but one really good queen cell (some say leave 2). If queen there, move her...

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

Remember, bees main enemy was the bear, bees will attack the neck, wrists and ankles, this is where the fur on a bear is thinnest. We ain't bears, but try explaining that to your bees.

    Cut-out

Going from the inside means you will have a room full of bees, hard to get into a box. On the outside you are only dealing with outside space and could place a hive and collect most of the returning bees. Good luck.

when to switch back to liquid feed

Feeding syrup and blocking up laying space depends on how your hive is set up, on a brood box only, you will have plenty of space, but I think you may be on brood and half so no problem. I have noticed that others on here have been feeding syrup to a nuc box and they don't seem to be worried so...

Best time of year to move bees!

3 miles or more, move anytime. Forage a consideration in early spring. The queens should start laying now, so your only bees are the over wintered bees. Try not to lose to many at this time of year, your hive needs them. I would have moved them in the winter, I don't think I would move them now...

    quick question about forum

I've seen lots of post on here that don't give advice just agree agree etc, by placing this comment on, I was giving advice again! By the way I agree. ps. so no hives, 3 bee stings, you must agree an awful lot.

when does frost kill off the ivy

Ivy still in flower around Sheffield and surrounding area, still plenty in bud, ivy seemed a little later this year because of the mild autumn. No hard frosts yet.

    conflicting advice

Funny you should notice this as I did as well with some late night reading, also was it 3 or 4 pages devoted to a survey about the readership?! One good item on Ivy and a rehash of swarm control. Finish the mag in 15 mins.

Some dead bees laden with pollen

Best to start a new thread, but it would be best to site the hive to catch the morning sun on the entrance and have sun most of the day, ie south facing, I have main facing south, west and east, but not north.
