We made a weekend of it and went to a lovely beekeeping supplier in North Wales (Ruthin). Ruthin is a nice place to wander around, eat etc. supplier cheap and helpful.....go on spoil yourself and call it helping the bees out :-)

Just a quick question from a newbee. I have a handful of docile looking bees hanging around one of my hives and half a dozen 'poking their heads out' of the other. It has gone dark and cooler.

This may be a dumb question, but what stops the queen laying in the supers if the QE us removed. We have same problem, but I hesitate to remove QE in case we end up in an awful mess
I am a new bee beek. One thing I have learned is that what ever question you ask everyone has a different answer :-) I have had two completely differnt answers to my question and was wanting further advice.
