    Zero Harvest Returns

At the end of June I had two supers brimming with honey in various stages of sealing. Come the beginning of September I have a few isolated corners of stores. I put this down to the wet July and early August. I wonder how other Beekeepers faired generally.

    Sales irritations

….and that is fair enough. We all do it. The next step is to budget. Unless you have very deep pockets of course 😂

    Sales irritations

Wow! All this was created by a beek expecting an immediate discount from start up companies in a climate that is getting tighter and tougher by the week. Understanding, loyalty and support now will pay dividends in the long run. Otherwise, pay the book price and take the discounts when they’re...

Raw honey could help reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels, study finds

I second that and there are still several traditional cider producers that keep a good stock of cheddar for sale too. 😋

Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

This statement should be included in the introduction course and introductions generally as a standard. Most of us are hobbyists anyway, but starting year three and still spending. (One of) my Christmas project(s)

I take it this is a cold smoker you’ve constructed. I fly fish and have a hot smoker, but it doesn’t taste great and of course, it’s cooked. If it is cold, I’d be interested to know how you create and feed the smoke end of the equation.

    Strangely short of stores

They’d taken down loads of syrup until it stopped disappearing. One is a new colony from a swarm the other is a third year well established colony and both are strong. I’ve stuck on some fondant, we’ll see.

Thanks, fondant installed and will monitor next week.

    Strangely short of stores

Dear Oracle, At the end of August (post harvest) both my hives were well stocked and took in several litres of syrup. Following VM treatments and preparations for winter I reduced full inspections carried out minor visual monitoring. I’ve seen plenty of activity from both hives until this recent...

    Predator mites against varroa?

I’m liking this thread. I too have used many an imported natural bug killer. Nematodes, lady birds, lace wings, etc. The idea that these mites are part of our soil make up is encouraging. Test results to follow, I assume, before we add another mite to the mite problem crawling all over our...

    Change of location

When would be the best time to move my hives to a new location please. They’re currently in a filed close by and I want to relocate them to the garden. 1/4 mile max.
