Silver spoon is beet sugar (UK) not cane sugar (elsewhere, hot!) - I've read somewhere that beet sugar may not be a good choice for feeding bees. Any comments or experience?
I made the emulsified mix last night - no problems in doing it but the smell really hangs about!! Recommend you put the extractor on full blast and keep the windows open! Dispose of any paper towels used to clear up as well!
If this is typical, I hope mine aren't F2s - I bought them to requeen hives that were 'unhappy'. Are suppliers obliged to provide details of provenance now that EFB and AFB are starting to spread?
Thanks for the reassurance Victor - many beekeeper round here are suggesting that other remedies (Apivar life?) are effective when Apistan is not. I would have preferred to use varroa stick which hasn't got the nasties of some of the others, but the infestation was severe
Apart from feeding them, and putting the Apistan on (they seemed docile then), I haven't moved any of the frames. I know they are laying because new bees are appearing at the entrance to learn to fly
