if you ready anywhere that beeking takes only 5 minutes a week and is relaxing.....IT'S A LIE!!!!
it takes loads of time and is hugely stressful..in the first year anyways..
but i am assured it gets better
Oh Rab, i cant wait to get to the point where it's classed as "easy"...that seems such a long long way away right now...
and might i ask WHO percy vere is? is he some kind of bee-god?
Wow!
was talking to my neighbour tonight and we had a bit of blether about the last 12-18months of our novicey beekeeping here in our tiny wee village..so far, between the 3 of us, we've experienced:
a drone laying worker
1 nuc that just didnt make it
this nuc/split that is a bit touch and...
suppose it could be robbing bees....though my strawberry patch is looking mighty wasp attacked too......we have a resident frog/toad friend who sees off most of the slugs for us just now :)
well thank you for making me feel even more of an eejit than I did yesterday LOL, and sorry if i confused the issue.
my concern is this: i locked my bees in on monday & believed there wasno way in or out (obviously to keep the robbing swine wasps out!), so i was more than a little confused...
So NOW what's happening???
aarrgghh!
this morning i went down after very heavy rainfall all day yesterdy and i see a few wasps maybe about 20 in 10 minutes of watching) trying to get in & apart from one, they all gave up and went away.
I was out all day today (jury duty) and when i went down...
as someone who foolishly put a nuc in her veggie garden (thinking I'd get lots of pollinated things!), DON'T DO IT!
if they are in a bad mood you wont get anywhere near them..and if you need to do things in the garden - tough!
as others have said, find somewhere that's closeby but away from...
to be fair, apart from the obvious re picking up dog poo being relatively easy, ie responsible owner is generally WITH dog when it poos so should be easy to bend down and pick it up!!!
horse riders dont actually CHOOSE where the horse dungs, and often dont even know cos lots of horses can walk...
"pillaging swine"..I love that :) cheered me up no end.
pouring with rain here today so not much of anybody out and about. saw a few wasps in the traps so pleased about that - not nearly enough though!
next sunny day will be more telling i expect.
and re numbers...ok maybe not...
