I can knock something together but would rather avoid any pitfalls. I am definitely overthinking it! Just how I am.
I have seen some on youtube. I will follow up on there.

I have been recycling old aluminium printing plates as hive rooves. I have a couple of large plates for the creation of a solar wax extractor. Does anyone have a tried and tested design/plan for a wooden framed parabolic reflector style extractor?

Apiary 0.
Checked colony 0.
A very weak colony in February but now covering 6 frames plus stores and slowly beginning to seal frames in a super.
Supervised the apprentice (SWMBOIYKWIGFY!) checking colony 3.
A split from a very strong hive on the allotment apiary that has been Demareed twice...
The list is long, especially when you are at the bottom of the pit!
Get the new (secondhand donation) equipment shed installed on the farm now the landlord has flattened and cleared the beezone.
Keep the four surviving colonies alive and try demaree when swarming starts.
Put a bait nuc on the...
Hi all,
Here is an update to my first post!
I visited thorn and was concerned that my garden space was too restricted. After seeing the Leeds Bee Keepers' Association Apiary at Temple Newsam and seeing my bee friend's garden, I realised that it was purely a case of direction and management by...
After becoming a beekeeper, I have suggested that the school I work at should have a couple of hives in the school allotment. The gardener is very interested and is going to suggest it to the governors. He even suggested there could be some funding toward the equipment costs.

I had to improvise a collection box and found I could fit a brood frame diagonally in a polystyrene broccoli box.
The swarm was very calm and easily scooped into the box and stragglers cupped and dropped in with their...

Wow!
I made my first visit to an apiary today courtesy of thorn. I cannot thank him enough for showing me his set up and the cup of tea while we had a chat.
:thanks:
It was thrilling to hear the buzz of a few thousand bees going about their business. I even got a tiny sting through my...
That is interesting. I have heard mixed reports of the Leeds Association but I will make up my own mind, I take people as I find them and I am very easy going.
I would love to see your set up. Is your garden large?
My garden is quite small but I imagine there are ways and means of screening and...
Have you any experience of the Temple Newsham Association?
Thank you!
I have a meeting with the local housing officer tomorrow and my neighbour to discuss putting a hive in his garden (a council property).

Hi madasafish,
Thanks for the advice. I like KISS!
I think you have to take the best from people and let the rest go.
