Time to get the camera out againAnd spread some joy

I recorded some clips a few years ago and stumbled on them recently on a remote drive, so sharing here. It is full HD on YouTube and I'm sure will help get you to sleep, a bit like a lavae lamps.

    Mystery nibbler!

I have a nibbler of some kind too, some here will probably identify the culprit quickly. It happened over time, starting as a light scratch and every few days when inspecting I noticed it getting deeper. Any thoughts? And thank you in advance, I don't mean to be hijacking someone elses thread...

    Soda / bicarb

Was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of the reason for this behavior, and apologies for the pun!!!

Extraction - time to go Electric....

Must agree, I tried a few and Logar extractors are beautifully made, very easy to clean compared to others, and similar price range. Its worth getting the soft feet option, and a refractometer at the same time if you don't already have one.

Do underfloor entrances really work to prevent wasp access?

Yes that would be true if I was using a foam blocker in the entrance but I don't as I've seen problems here in the past with bees getting crushed, instead I slide in a 7mm thick sheet that blocks the entrance at the bottom of the vertical tunnel, and thus allowing the mesh to vent the hive from...

Do underfloor entrances really work to prevent wasp access?

I am working on an underfloor entrance floor to match the poly brood boxes, 500 x 500, and using a solid floor. Anyway the final design has a small strip of mesh under frames 1 and 2. I'm hoping any wasps that enter the landing chamber will go to the mesh and not figure the route the bees take...

    Seaweed additive

I would be a strong advocate for hivealive because I have seen the side by side difference of with and without. There are many opinions as to what it does and I have to say I was a sceptic before I tried it but the results were very good. Do let us know how it works out for you after a season.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

The teamwork is fantastic, if only the human race could learn from them the world would bee a better place! Thanks for posting here.

    Bit of a wax disaster!

Perhaps if you pour a close to boiling kettle of water and keep the drain plug in the sink to catch the water and wax together, then when it cools you can lift the wax off the water, but its probably all over and fixed by now, so sorry for only coming in now!

    Queen leaving the hive!

I have two strong poly nucs with two brood extensions on each and full of bees. I watch and learn from them but yesterday and today there are drones going in and out as if it was the middle of the summer. There's not loads but I reckon one drone to 40 or 50 workers, and easy to pick out with...

Moving from standard National deep to 14x12

Many thanks Eric, Yes I'm using all polys - Will watch out for the sales - Maismore is good because its flatpack. I have to shop around a bit because was caught before with shipping charges to Ireland from the UK which ended up more than the goods value! My own fault! And now with the added...

Moving from standard National deep to 14x12

Great thread for me to learn from, I have three national nucs which are now three BB's high (18 frames) and all have prolific queens and stuffed with bees. When the new season comes around I'll have to move/transfer them into full hives and was looking at all the options. Up to now I have mainly...
