I have had a pretty good early season, having just extracted my OSR. I have three hives with 3 / 4 supers on each. I am not sure as to how I can get these cleaned by the bees so I can remove them. I’ve tried searching and there is mention of using a crown board but there is no indication as to...
Thanks for the advice. I will heed beeno’s advice from my first post - I should have merged it with another hive in the autumn as I was pretty sure it was queenless then. Still it’s all a learning curve.
I posted a little while ago about my suspicions that I had a hive that was Queenless / Drone laying queen. During the warm weather of last week I had a another quick look. Lots more sealed brood - all drone and very patchy. I will shake them out ( though when it’s much warmer - snowing here...
Oliger90owner - As advised I am just going to sit tight and see. I only had a very quick look and spotted only a very small amount of brood but it was all big bulging drone type ??? Though on the outer most frames. Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions as I thought that particular hive was...
That I am not sure of - as I only did a quick inspection - and possibly jumped ahead of myself. Will wait to have a proper look when it’s a bit warmer for a closer look - thank you for your help
I had a hive that I was sure had gone queen-less late into the autumn. It was too late to attempt to Re queen so I kept my fingers crossed perhaps I was wrong
Very warm today so had a chance to check all my hives, tidy up and feed. This one particular hive is definitely queen less and there...
In previous years I have extracted my honey, removed the supers and fed the brood box in readiness for winter. This year I have just too many bees to be accommodated in a single brood box. I have put a super on to give them room ... but I am unsure how to go forward - should I wait and the...
She definitely in there - normally I would be happy with eggs but
It’s a very aggressive hive, they go beserk when I open them up - though they don’t sting - too often !!. I would like to Re queen as soon as possible but this is proving tricky. Will give your suggestion a try. Thank you
Thanks for the reassurance - not seen it before. I have been hunting an elusive queen and it’s not helping as I have persuaded myself she’s in one of the tangles that drops away when I pull out a frame and she’s then lost.
On inspection this evening my bees seem to be clinging together almost linked like a chain, hanging off frames and linked between frames. I have not changed spacing or frame number ( 11 + Dummy Board) and not seen this before . hive is single national brood box - not overly full as was split a...
Can anyone tell me if there is a best time of day to unite a colony. I am concerned about what happens to the bees in the top box that are being United My assumption is that will not be able to get back into their box. If I do it during the day I am guessing there will be a lot out foraging with...
