    How to find the Queen

Thank you jimbeekeeper. Unfortunately I forgot to mention that I am out of spare BB's at the moment. Have been increasing colony numbers (mostly by accident!) Only have the Nuc box to play with at the moment

    How to find the Queen

As I remember it, knocked down about three or four sealed cells that were across the bottom of two frames. A couple of open cells that had larva & jelly again on the bottom of frames. And a couple of sealed cells about a third of the way up the frames. I left a large open cell with larva &...

    How to find the Queen

Hi, Found a handful of queen cells in one of my colonies on an inspection at my out apiary this afternoon. 14x12 BB and a full uncapped super. Last inspection 7 days ago. Didn't appear that they had already swarmed. Loads of bees in BB & super. Thought I was a clever clogs because I had a Nuc...

Artificial Swarm - Some Advice Please

Poly, Would you mind doing a step by step for an AS using a nuc if the intention is to reintegrate back into the same hive and all within a single apiary ? Peter

Artificial Swarm - Some Advice Please

If it is the only method you use it would mean that your hive to nuc box ratio would be totally different to someone following the more published method of using another BB for the AS. I am interested because am trying to think through...

    Bees & Dogs

This afternoon our large labradoodle (37kg) was stung by one of my girls for the first time. It was not near the home apiary. We think he rolled onto it in the grass while she was on the clover and got tangled in his coat. He was stung in the flank. Within 4 minutes he had collapsed and...

    Nucleus method of swarm control

I am trying to figure out the extra hives/nuc boxes & general kit I will need for next year. Have been working on the rough assumption for every 2 complete hives for colonies to have 1 spare hive for AS etc.. Should I be looking at complete hives to equal the number of colonies I want to keep...

Help Identifying Type of Bee Please?

A possible explanation would be that you had Masonry bees living in the outside wall where you have now got the extension. This has become part of the inner house and your central heating has woken them early as I don't think they are around until April. That is why they appear a bit dopey. Peter

Help Identifying Type of Bee Please?

Think it may be a Masonry Bee or Mason Bee. Give them a Google. Peter
