    Breakfast Honey

Thanks, and agreed on all points really. Fair point on the costing of the jars- much appreciated....this as well as the fact they are going to be a right royal pain to process and fill! I'll aim to keep to the standard info on the label and try different fonts so that its legible...even after...

    Breakfast Honey

I've been asked to supply small jars (45ml) for a local Inn for their breakfast trays. As these are technically being given to the guests rather than sold, do the standard labelling rules apply? Curious as trying to keep labels legible as so small! Thanks

    Roof

Woodpeckers. If you've got them in the area, they will go though a felt roof in minutes - it looks like someone has been shooting your roof with cricket balls. Tin seems to give them a headache.

Whole colony deserted, leaving eggs, brood & honey behind.

Almost exactly the same happened to me. A healthy hive, just administered their first dose of Apiguard. I saw them all hanging out front the next morning and thought they were not unreasonably feeling hard done by as it was a warm sunny morning.....next thing they are gone...leaving brood in...

How are the professional beekeeper doing?

Similarly not a bee farmer, but in Berkshire we got 120 Kilos of honey off 6 productive hives, and we have close to 150 kilos on the hives at the moment. When the sun comes out, they are hitting the limes and bramble.

Hive from hell - suggestions please...

Our experiences with a mad hive might be instructive. If you are going to merge them, they have to be "desperately queenless". We started from a slightly different position, as we found the queen. Week one: old queen killed Week two: hive throroughly inspected, every queen cell torn down...

    Ged or Jed Marshall's queens

We had three of his queens last year, they're lovely. One swarmed when we didn't give the hive enough space - our fault. We got her back though. Another is being given plenty of space, and pointedly refuses to consider swarming, and just fills every super we can throw at the hive. The other...

    What would you do?

unfortunately not this one.... I put one QC into a nuc with usual additions Still not finding the Queen I rubbed the remaining QC in the main hive, reasoning they can use the eggs to re-make if nec.

    What would you do?

Lovely day here...am just back from checking the hives(finally) Generally all good bees returning loaded with Dandelion, rape and hawthorn pollen/nectar and rapidly restoring depleted stores. However, in 1 14 x12 I saw eggs (Standing base cell), brood all stages 2x sealed Queen cells and no...
