Bees also prefer it if there comb is "aligned" to entrance. If the hole is onthe long side bees have to climb oer/under the first frames to get to the last one, making their life more difficult, then if they can excess all the frames from the entrance without minimal effort.

How about using the wifes recipe but instead of the fruit in the batter, she lines the baking pan with the fruit and then makes and upside down fruit and honey cake. Just butter the pan thouroghly and sprinkle with sugar before lining with fruit.

How about sticking a recipe onto the jar of pure honey. That usuallly sells well for people looking to use old things in new ways. For Example Christmas Gammon Glazed with Honey and poked with Cloves. Or some Stir fry recipe that uses honey and nuts.

If your hive is about hip height off the ground, as for example on a box with a smooth surface, then the badger shouldn't be able to reach the hive, as it is out of reach. Just make sure that the stand your hive is on is sturdy and smooth, preferably not wood, as badgers have limited climbing...
