Multi purpose feisty hive

One of my hives has been on the mend since last year. Very unstable bunch, 1 minute like a kitten and the next super defensive. They didn't produce a big yield last year so I have decided to do something with it.
Usually, I would requeen but with 9 frames of brood I am thinking of using it as my cell raiser to save me taking brood out of other hives and turning a good hive into a cell raiser. Once cells are ready I can split this hive into a few nucs.
Anyone tried this rather than the usual requeening?

Yes I often do as you’ve described for general queen rearing.

Im using the rubbish for comb drawing and a bit of nuc building.
Squish the queens last thing so the weakness isn't spread around next spring.
It's a sort of plan...
