Extracted the honey from my hives a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the honey had a strange after taste to it, I cant describe it exactly as it tastes like noting ive tasted before, its got a slight bitter aftertaste and a strange smell. A couple of my customers love it but some dont find it paletable, im considering feeding it back to the bees as I dont want to affect future sales.
The water content readings are fine so its not fermentation.
I was wandering if the bees had become desperate with the poor weather and collected nectar from unusual plants such as privet or perhaps thay have collected a large amount of honeydew ?
Which plants produce unusual tasting nectar. ?
Luckily (although i didnt think this at the time) I only got 60lb of honey this Autumn.
