Yes, it was quite low for that colony.

    Complete dead out !

Would have to check my records but I put Apiguard on around Aug/Sept.

    Complete dead out !

I double checked. Treatment was around 29/30 December.

    Complete dead out !

They had stores and fondant on crown board.

    Complete dead out !

Lost a colony today. When treating them with apibioxal early January, I noticed numbers seemed low, so I assume it was a heat issue, lack of numbers. Didn’t have time to get a proper look though. Was there anything I could have done to save them in early January? Uniting them with another...

    Varroa count after OA treatment

Approx 250 mites after 3 days in one colony. No mites in another. It’s mad, Ted.

Oxalic Acid treatment & removing the Super

In order to move the stores up into the Brood Box above it?

Oxalic Acid treatment & removing the Super

Fondant was temporary, until I put the super back on. The bees will probably end up with the honey that’s there (it does still feel quite full), but I was just concerned in case I was to use the same frames in future, and didn’t know if extracting honey from frames that were treated with OA was...

Oxalic Acid treatment & removing the Super

Left a super on one hive as stores in BB were light in autumn. Will do Oxalic Acid trickling soon. Thought it best to remove the super, trickle the OA in the BB, then feed colony fondant. Then replace the super when any risk of honey tainting from the OA is gone. How long should I keep the...

    epipens

I normally take a daily Loratidine 10mg tablet in summer for hay fever. So maybe doing that might help me with stings during the summer months. Do you mean the bee stings help with arthritis?

    epipens

My sting reaction varies. If I’m stung on the hand/finger, the swelling/rash/itchiness might move down the arm a little. Other times, it can be just like a slight swelling like a nettle sting. Do you mind me asking what your worst reaction was with (a) a bee sting, and (b) with nuts?

    epipens

    Good to know.

    epipens

Flip! That’s reassuring! o_O I’ve only had swelling to sting area and itchiness afterwards. Nothing major thankfully. Hopefully I never will.

What’s SWMBO? There’s an allergy test available? I meant peanuts, but I’m sure you knew that ;)

    epipens

Didn’t see this thread earlier. Enquired at local pharmacy about an epipen. They said to see my GP. She (the GP) said she was unable to prescribe one unless I had an allergy to stings, but gave me details of private clinics who might provide them. I’m assuming that involves a private...

    No brood

    Ok

    No brood

I don’t normally inspect this late. Had to remove an apiguard tray, and just had a quick look while there.

    No brood

Did a late inspection today. Stores good. Some old sealed brood. No larvae. 15-20 fresh eggs on one frame only. 2022 Queen. I noticed at last inspection that her laying was slowing, but this seems very low now. I’m assuming it’s just a brood break? Or should I unite with another hive?

    Wasps

So, lately I removed my tunnel entrances, and put mouseguards on. Still notice the odd wasp about yet. And one being chased out the door earlier today. What’s the deal with wasps at this time of the year? Will they do much damage if they got into the hive? Or will they die off now or hibernate?

God I love growing our own

About half the bush had leaves this summer. Some branches were dark brown/black with no leaves or fruit. So, I’m not sure if they will grow again next season.
