I've been selling 12oz jar at £6 for longer than I can remember (at least 5 year and probably closer to 10). Only sell at the door and advertise on a local Facebook group, sell out most years, 250lbs last year and have been considering putting up price by 50p to £1 next year as I've had several...
I have 11 SN4 frames in my honey supers and will generally get between 20 and 25lbs of honey per super, so approximately 2lb per frame.
It was only a rough calculation as the buyer wanted a price there and then
I got asked a few years ago by somebody wanting a frame of honey. I worked on 2lbs of honey in the frame at £8 a lbs then the cost of frame and wax sheet. I said £25 never heard back from them. Nowadays I would £35 to £40, some people will pay it i tried a 4oz comb of honey comb in my 12oz jars...
I have a badger that regularly visits my garden it's never bothered with the beehives it's more interested in the bird feed and peanuts dropped by the birds from the bird feeder which are less than 2 meters from the beehives
I had some late summer honey like jelly last year, I suspect they found a decent amount of Heather pollen. First time the honey has had a jelly like consistency in 15 years of bee keeping
My sales are slowing down now, but not actively advertising as I've only got the late summer honey left which is thick and gloopy and I suspect has heather pollen in which nobody seems interested as it granulates very quickly.
The going rate near me is £6 for a 12oz jar, I've been selling at that price for several years now that I was considering increasing the price as I'm selling out as soon as it comes off the hives.
I'm also in Cheshire but the other end of the county. I also found all the courses booked up when I started over 10 years ago, so just got a few books and read up over winter. Got an order in for bees early and kept in touch with the seller until they were ready so they knew I was serious.
I...
My best year in a long time, I've taken 160lbs of honey from three hives, the same three hives only managed 30lbs last year. Also split one hive and collect a swarm from a neighbours garden which came from another neighbours roof. Very dry and hot May, but had heavy rain at the beginning of...
One clump is about 5 meters away but there are other plants and a water source in between that they readily forage on, will have to try planting them in the front garden next year.
Either that or they are spoilt for choice for flower in the garden at the moment.
I bought the maisemore 4 frame extractor 10 years ago and it's still going strong but mine has metal gears and it benefits from having the legs bolted to a wooden pallet when extracting if the frames have different amounts of honey in them otherwise it skips accross the floor. I usually have 3...
