    Nice View of Jupiter Tonight

Annoyingly I got a new phone a few weeks ago and it somehow changed my alerts so I never got the Aurora Watch note and was sound asleep. Bah!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked the hive I split last week. Thought I had knocked down all QCs except one big fat sealed one but found two more sneakily tucked away so those were squished too. Will leave them now for at least two weeks. Meanwhile the queenless bees are busy packing the supers with nectar. They seem to...

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I’ve got two bait hives in my out apiaries. Not a sniff so far…. I’m crossing fingers it might be tomorrow as weather is set to be warm. And no breeze.

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I knew it! The minute we reached the New Forest, I got a call about a swarm in a chaps chimney which then decided the apple tree in his garden was the best bivouac spot. Very easy collection apparently, grrrrrr! That's it. No more May holidays!

    Mild Nosema?

I did wonder that but couldn’t find any relevant data.

    Mild Nosema?

One hive inspected today (currently on its own in an out apiary) with what looks like low level Nosema. Splats are only on the outside of the hive, nothing on the frames. They’re a recently hived nuc - 5 frames of BIAS, queen laying well. They came low on stores (which I knew) so they had...

    Queenless again!

 sounds like a load of cobblers to me.

What do you enjoy about Beekeeping?

What is that strange yellow light coming from the sky??

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Colonies with the varroa issue had second vapes yesterday between showers. Supers removed during treatment. I love this out apiaries owners, they invite me in for coffee when it's raining! The hive where the queen flew away last Tuesday is all good - she's come back and is laying (and is now...

    Silvercrest jam maker damage

That last one on eBay sold for £74!

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I predict swarming will start in earnest on Tuesday. We are going camping for a couple of days and that’s what normally happens when I’m miles from home 🙄

    Building a honey house

    That looks AMAZING! Want one!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I moved the entrance block round on one hive this morning to give them more room to get in. It’s actually been warm and sunny the last few days (& supposed to be carrying on like this) and there was such a logjam of bees trying to enter the hive yesterday afternoon, they looked like they were...

    Is beekeeping getting harder?

And more ‘once in a lifetime’ winter storms!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Well, the weather here has been warm today & apart from overnight storms tonight & occasional patchy rain tomorrow & Friday, is set to be the same for the next week so I would not have been surprised to find them charged on next inspection.
